Ask A Video Artist / Jessie Scott

Introducing Ask A Video Artist

By Jessie Scott

Welcome to Picture Skew’s new weekly web series, Ask A Video Artist.

Think of it as “Everything you ever wanted to know about Video Art, but were too afraid to ask.”

Each week, a different Video Artist (local, international, great and small) will select a piece of Video Art which has moved, inspired, frustrated, challenged or amused them, and tell us in their own words, why. We’ll link to online videos where we can so you can see what they’re talking about.

We know you want to love Video Art as much as we do, but it’s HARD. It’s difficult. It’s a diva. Sometimes Video Art doesn’t want to be loved. Sometimes it just wants to be appreciated. Hopefully, Ask A Video Artist will help build a bridge between you and Video Art. So you can both just get over yourselves and learn to live together.

We make no apologies for the fact that it will be low-fi and low budget, using crappy web cams, youtube and the power of the still-free innanet to bring the thoughts and feelings of some pretty great artists and some pretty great art straight to your screens. Think substance over style. (It’s a video art thing)

First cab off the rank will be local Video, web and installation artist, Ian Haig, he of Men of the Internet. Episode one will be published here, tomorrow at 11am.

Down the track: Soda_Jerk, Eugenia Lim, Dominic Redfern and more…maybe you? Get in touch if you are interested in taking part!
