Ask A Video Artist – Keith Deverell

The Video Artist:

Keith Deverell is an Australian/UK artist, curator and designer working with photography, found objects, video art, and sound/image installation and performance. He positions his work as an immersive conversation that draws upon the duality of poetics and politics. In 2008 he completed a Master of Design from RMIT.

In 2009 Keith produced the much-lauded Rear Window project with Sue McCauley through a City of Melbourne Laneways Commission. This projection work was a subtle exploration of the daily lives of Chinese workers in Melbourne’s Chinatown.

His and Sue’s recent work The Hawkers Song commissioned by the Melbourne International Arts Festival in 2010 was recently acquired by the Singapore Art Musuem. The Hawkers Song will be exhibited this year in Singapore along side selected video works from the Centre Pompidou Video Art Archive. The Hawkers Song was a collaborative project produced in Cambodia with two Cambodian Artists and was funded by The Australia Council For The Arts, Arts Victoria and the City of Melbourne.

In 2008 and 2009 Keith curated and produced Intermission, video and film performance events for the Melbourne International Film Festival, featuring Australian and International Artists. Since 2004 he has collaborated with Corey Sands and Nathan Moore in the sound/image/performance group SONE. SONE performed at Intermission in 2008 and 2009. In 2010 SONE was awarded a residency at the Bundanon Trust in NSW.
